White Cliffs Walk and Draw

15 Jul 2015

I was so excited when I saw this beautiful drawing in black, white and burnt sienna of the shelter …

The drawing is by Anthony Gross, commissioned as a war artist in 1941, when he spent 10 days in Dover. More info here.

Stop off on your walk along the White Cliffs and join me at a Walk and Draw workshop on Thursday 30 July 11-3pm in the recently uncovered Fan Bay Shelter as part of the Up on the Downs Big Summer Festival in partnership with the National Trust. The tunnels were constructed in 1940/41 as accommodation for the gun battery above.

Materials will be provided. The workshop is suitable for all abilities and is a drop-in workshop. Access to the venue is challenging and children must be accompanied and aged 12 or above.

Please wear closed shoes for your walk and comfortable clothing. The temperature in the shelter is a constant 10 degrees centigrade so it is advisable to bring something warm to wear as well. For more information on visiting the Fan Bay Deep Shelter, please click Fan Bay Deep Shelter and take a look in particular at the Fan Bay Frequently Asked Questions.
